Fixing Your Social Media Marketing Strategy

Social Media MarketingThere are a lot of reasons why your social media marketing strategy may not be as effective as you expected. The sooner you determine the cause of your problem, the sooner you can get to work fixing the issue. These are just some of the reasons why you may need to change your social media approach.

Muddled Goals

If you do not have a specific goal in mind for your social media marketing approach, then you will more than likely just be wasting a bunch of time. No matter what type of marketing you do, you have to have a clear picture of your preferred outcome. It could be increasing traffic to your site or convincing people to sign up for your mailing list. It could be improving recognition of your brand or simply getting exposure for a book you recently wrote. But if you do not have a clear goal, you might as well be throwing darts with a blindfold and hoping they land somewhere near the board.

Mis-managed Expectations

While it is important to set goals, they need to be realistic. There is nothing magical about social media marketing. It is not an automatic cure-all for whatever might be ailing your company. If you think that your social media site will automatically bring a torrent of traffic to your main website, you will very likely be sorely disappointed. Rather, it should help you gradually build brand recognition, attract leads and eventually hep you generate sales.

Ignoring Engagement

“Social” is the key word in social media marketing. You cannot simply throw up a post and then ignore it. If people are commenting – whether those comments are positive or negative – you need to respond. Tell your fans you appreciate them and take the time to answer any questions they may have. Also, like and share other content you feel is appropriate for your pages.
